Your documents stay in your browser
Markdown Viewer renders Markdown entirely on your device. The text you type, paste, drop or open from disk is kept in your browser's localStorage (keys mdv_doc, mdv_name) so it is still there when you come back. It is never sent to our server. Clearing your browser's site data removes it.
Settings and language
Your theme and reading preferences are also stored in localStorage (mdv_theme, mdv_settings). If you pick a language, a mdv_lang cookie (one year) remembers it so the site opens in that language next time. There are no other cookies.
Opening a URL
When you use Open → From URL, our server fetches that address on your behalf (browsers block most cross-site requests) and passes the text back to you. The file is held in memory only for the duration of the request; we do not store it and do not log its contents. Only public http/https addresses up to 2 MB are fetched.
Share links
A share link contains the whole document, compressed, in the part of the address after #. Browsers do not send that part to servers, so the document is not uploaded when the link is created or opened. Anyone you give the link to can read the document.
Analytics and third parties
No analytics, advertising or third-party scripts are loaded. All fonts and libraries are served from this site.
