About Markdown Viewer
Markdown Viewer is a free online Markdown editor and reader. Paste or type Markdown on the left and see it rendered on the right; hide the editor and it becomes a distraction-free reading view. Everything happens in your browser — documents are stored in localStorage on your machine and are never uploaded.
What it renders
- All of GitHub-Flavored Markdown: headings, emphasis, links, images, lists, task lists, tables, strikethrough, autolinks, footnotes.
- Fenced code blocks with syntax highlighting for 50+ languages, a language label and a copy button.
- GitHub-style alerts (
> [!NOTE],[!TIP],[!IMPORTANT],[!WARNING],[!CAUTION]). - Math with KaTeX (
$…$and$$…$$) and diagrams with Mermaid (```mermaid). - YAML front matter,
[[toc]]tables of contents, emoji shortcodes, and sanitized inline HTML such as<details>.
Themes
Sixteen themes, light and dark, each with its own syntax-highlighting palette: GitHub Light and Dark, Claude and Claude Dark, Paper, Solarized, Catppuccin Latte and Mocha, Rosé Pine and Rosé Pine Dawn, Nord, Dracula, One Dark, Gruvbox and Tokyo Night. “Follow system” switches between GitHub Light and Dark with your operating system. Exported HTML files carry the theme with them.
Editor features
- Split, editor-only and reading layouts; resizable panes; a document outline with the current heading highlighted.
- Line-accurate scroll syncing between source and preview.
- Formatting toolbar and shortcuts, smart list continuation, Tab indentation.
- Open files by drag & drop, from disk, or from a URL (GitHub links are converted to raw files automatically).
- Export as Markdown, as a standalone HTML page, print to PDF, or share the document as a compressed link.
